The Effect of Music on Your Health
by
belmarrahealth Music has long been considered to be an enjoyable pastime for many people. And it’s also highly popular due to the very individualized effects on stress and anxiety. While the mental health benefits can’t be argued, there is a whole variety of other ailments that music could be helping you with behind the scenes. What makes music such a good influence on your good health is that it is an activity that involves the use of your entire brain. Some experts say that if it is too loud, music can be distracting, or even painful on your eyes, but the benefits are many, and music does, indeed have many health benefits as well. Positive Effects for Pain For the same reasons that music can be considered to be negative because it might be seen as distracting, it can also be very beneficial if one is in pain. By distracting the mind from the pain, many people say that stress and anxiety levels are lower, which can also lead to less pain as well. Reducing Stress and Anxiety Levels Many people report that playing relaxing music in the evening prior to going to bed can play an imperative role in calming the brain enough to sleep. While the jury is out on the validity on the idea, this lowered stress can even be tied back to blood pressure, which is a serious problem in North America. According to research that was presented at the American Society of Hypertension meeting listening to just 30 minutes of softer music every day may help with healthy blood sugar levels, through the lowering of stress and anxiety. Music and the Effect on Your Heart When it comes to heart health, there is speculation that it’s not the style of music, but rather the tempo that makes it so good for your heart health. In one European study, participants listened to music as the researchers monitored their breathing, heart rates and blood pressure. Interestingly, the participants had faster heart and breathing rates when they listened to more upbeat music. On the other hand, when the music slowed, so did participants stress and anxiety levels, the effects on heart rates appeared to follow suit. How Music and Mental Health Might Have an Effect Immune System This idea is one that is a little more off-the-wall but still has scientific backing. There are many scientists and researchers that claim that some individuals have very emotional reactions to certain types of music which can create a highly emotional experience. The researchers say that this feeling could lead to the secretion of hormones which could, in turn boost the immune system. This helps contribute to a reduction in the factors responsible for illness. Other information also says that listening to music or even singing your heart out also can also decrease levels of certain hormones which are related to stress, which is good for your overall heart health as well. The implications on mental health and overall well-being for this study really are impressive, but there is a whole array of other health issues that turning up the radio could be beneficial for, which is what makes music so very valuable.

The United States government has filed a civil lawsuit against BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. (BPXA) alleging that the company “violated federal clean air and water laws” by “illegally discharging” more than 200,000 gallons crude oil during two oil spills in 2006 on Alaska’s North Slope in Prudhoe Bay.
BPXA previously pleaded guilty to one count of criminal negligence in illegally discharging the oil and paid US$20 million in damages. As a result of the plea, the lawsuit was filed saying that they “failed” to prepare for such a disaster by implementing “certain [sic] spill prevention measures” as the law requires.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the [DOT]-Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), alleges that BPXA “illegally discharged more than 200,000 gallons of crude oil from its pipelines” and “violated the Clean Air Act by improperly removing asbestos-containing materials from its pipelines” It also says that they “failed to comply in a timely manner with a corrective action order that the [DOT]-Pipeline and PHMSA issued to BPXA pursuant to federal pipeline safety laws.”
According to the Associated Press (AP), BPXA spokespeople state that the company has taken certain measures, making sure daily operations are safe.
“We have taken significant steps to ensure that our operations are safe and reliable, and protect the environment. Those include building a new $500 million system of oil transit lines at Prudhoe Bay,” said spokesman Steve Rinehart to the AP.
The spills were discovered on March 2, 2006 and covered nearly two acres. It was initially estimated that nearly 270,000 gallons had spilled. The official loss was put at 212,252 gallons.
BPXA, a subsidiary of BP America, specializes in exploring and finding locations to drill for oil, as well as drilling for it.

The British Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne delivered the budget today, an annually-held audit of the country’s finances deciding how taxpayers’ money should be spent. He set out plans to boost the housing market in his fourth budget, as well as stating the economy will grow by 0.6% — half his prediction four months ago.
George Osborne revealed plans to improve the housing market, including a “Help to Buy” shared equity scheme which would offer buyers who can place a 5% deposit on a new house, a 20% loan to buy it. He said: “This is a budget for those who aspire to own their own home”. He also offered a new Mortgage Guarantee, created in conjunction with mortgage lenders — the scheme would allow them to offer loans to homeowners without the need for a large deposit and offer guarantees to support up to £130bn of lending for three years beginning in 2014.
As a measure to attract investment to the British economy, he announced to reduce corporation tax from 21% to 20% taking effect from April 2015. The rate of corporation tax has fallen from 28% in 2010 to the current level of 21%. The United Kingdom is to have lower rates of corporation tax than the USA at 40%, France at 33%, and Germany at 29%.
The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) stated the government debt reduction programme to reduce the budget deficit will miss its targets. The government has forecast the total public sector debt will begin to fall by the financial year 2015/2016, while OBR says national debt will reach a high of 85.6% of GDP, £1.58 trillion, in 2016/17. Osborne defended the government efforts to reduce the deficit and said: “Our judgement has since been supported by the IMF, the OECD and the Governor of the Bank of England.”
In response to the Budget speech, the Leader of the Opposition Ed Miliband said: “At the worst possible time for the country. It’s a downgraded budget from a downgraded Chancellor […] Debt is higher in every year of this Parliament than he forecast at the last Budget. He is going to borrow £200 billion more than he planned.”
The Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Ed Balls said to The Independent, “They are borrowing £245bn more in this Parliament, we said all along …said this two years ago, if they had moved more quickly with a sensible, targeted package of measures to kick-start the economy, which would have meant at that time more borrowing for a VAT [Value Added Tax] cut to bring forward housing investment, then we would have got the economy growing and the deficit coming down.”
The Business Secretary Vince Cable told the BBC in an interview, the “age of austerity” would probably end within the current decade, but made no more definite forecast.
The head of the British Federation of Small Businesses, John Walker, said: “The Budget opens the door for small businesses to grow and create jobs. The Chancellor has pulled out all the stops with a wide ranging package of measures to support small business. […] [W]e are pleased to see the scrapping of the 3p fuel duty due in September”.
Len McCluskey, the General Secretary of Unite the Union, criticized the budget for not helping working families. He said: “This is a Budget for the few by the few that attacks the many. Millionaires are days away from getting a £40,000 tax cut from the Tories, but George Osborne is using the budget to attack hard-working public sector workers. The worst chancellor in British history has gone further by giving big business another tax cut while staff caring for the sick get pay cuts. […] [H]e should have raised the national minimum wage by £1 and drop the senseless plan to give millionaires a tax break in a few days’ time”.

Governor Bobby Jindal, a Republican politician from the U.S. state of Louisiana, appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday and said he supports teaching intelligent design (ID) in public school as “the very best science.” Jindal, who was elected governor in 2007, is a Hindu convert to Catholicism who takes the Bible literally.
In his exchange on the Sunday morning talk show, “Some want only to teach intelligent design, some only want to teach evolution. I think both views are wrong, as a parent.”
In a September 2007 debate he supported the view of creationism saying, “Personally, it certainly makes sense to me that when you look at creation, you would believe in a creator.”
Recently, the Louisiana House of Representatives passed legislation, which the National Center for Science Education said “opens the door to creationism in public school science classes.” The bill is currently on his desk.
Jindal is currently considered a possible Vice President candidate for John McCain’s U.S. Presidential campaign.

Probably the most important aspect of hiring and working with interior designers is the interior design contracts which help both parties to agree to the terms of the project and which also sets forth the scope of the project in question. Interior design contracts allow home owners to specify who is to be held responsible and also for what the responsibility is to be shouldered, and also they help in defining the duration of the project and also the budgeted limits.
Work Should Move Along Set Lines
Drawing out a well conceived and all encompassing interior design contract is to your advantage as also to the advantage of the interior designer as it allows work to progress along set lines, and the amount of money involved will have been clearly spelt out leaving no place for ambiguity or confusion. It also helps in laying down the estimated costs of the project and you need to have worked out all of the variables that will influence such costs including the size of your project, quality of products to be used as well as the timeframe in which the project need to be completed.
Important elements of interior design contracts include agreeing to engage the interior designer who in turn accepts to undertake the project and there must also be mention of specification and design of furnishing, wall treatment, fixtures as well as color concepts and even the equipment that will be used. Also, the interior design contracts will mention the date by which the project must have been completed and that the home owner shall from time to time review the work as it progresses in phases and give his or her opinion with regard to the quality of work performed.
Furthermore, it is quite usual for interior design contracts to require the interior designer to prepare preliminary conceptual studies which may include sketches and also materials that are proposed to be needed and may also require setting out the needs with regard to furniture, carpeting, draperies, wood finishes, paints as well as architectural drawings and more, and after the design and preliminary presentations have been approved by the home owner, the project may be given the go-ahead to progress further.
It is also a good idea to have the interior design contracts vetted by a legal eagle as this is an important agreement that involves a good amount of money and thus any loopholes and discrepancies should be ironed out at the very beginning to ensure that neither party suffers later on. In any case, the interior design contracts must at the very least spell out the scope of the project and makes sure to place responsibility on the shoulders of the interior designer to get the work performed to the satisfaction of the home owner. snslamps.com

Mohamed Nasheed, the leader of the Maldives, has announced that the country will become carbon-neutral within a decade by completely switching to renewable energy sources.
“We aim to become carbon-neutral in a decade,” he said.
“Climate change threatens us all. Countries need to pull together to de-carbonize the world economy. We know cutting greenhouse gas emissions is possible and the Maldives is willing to play its part,” Nasheed said, adding that he hopes his plan will serve as a blueprint for other countries.

“We understand more than perhaps anyone what would happen to us if we didn’t do anything about it or if the rest of the world doesn’t find the imagination to confront this problem,” Nasheed told Newshour in a telephone interview from the Maldives’ capital of Male.
“So basically, we don’t want to sit around and blame others, but we want to do whatever we can, and hopefully, if we can become carbon-neutral, and when we come up with the plan, we hope that these plans also will serve as a blueprint for other nations to follow. We think we can do it, we feel that everyone should be engaged in it, and we don’t think that this is an issue that should be taken lightly.”
Nasheed’s plan calls for half of a square kilometre (0.19 square miles) of solar panels and 155 wind turbines, each generating 1.5 megawatts. The electricity will power vehicles as well. Boats and automobiles with gasoline engines would be slowly replaced with electric versions.
The plan will cost an estimated US$1.1 billion. The economy of the Maldives, reliant mainly on tourism and fishing, is worth $800 million a year.

Environmentalist Mark Lynas said that the plan could pay for itself in a decade, due to savings on oil imports. “It’s going to cost a lot of money but it will also save a lot of money from not having to import oil,” Lynas said.
“The point of doing it is that it is something the Maldives can lead the world in. No rich country has the excuse that it is too expensive and we can’t do anything,” Lynas said to the news agency Reuters.
“The Maldives could just give up. Its people could declare themselves climate change refugees and ask for sanctuary elsewhere. But the new government is taking a stand and asked us to give them a plan for a near zero-carbon economy,” said Chris Goodall, the British climate change expert who led the development of the carbon-neutral plan. “We don’t want to pretend that this plan is going to be easy to implement. There will be hiccups, and electricity supply will occasionally be disrupted. But we think that building a near-zero-carbon Maldives is a realistic challenge. Get it right and we will show the apathetic developed world that action is possible, and at reasonable cost.”
The Maldives are located in the Indian ocean and are among the lowest-lying islands on the planet, with none of them rising more than six feet (1.8 metres) above sea level, making them particularly vulnerable to rising sea levels associated with global warming.
